Amelia

Co-Founder & Executive Director + Head Coach

Amelia Wieger is an accomplished and dedicated Circus Arts Instructor, Program Director and School Director, and will be taking on the role of Co-Executive Director of The Climb Circus Arts. She has nine years of experience in teaching across many disciplines from aerials to ground skills, and has focused most of her Circus Arts career in Youth Programming. As a teacher and director, Amelia is passionate about fostering a safe and inclusive community for all students through the art of circus. She approaches teaching from a place of encouragement and motivation, and places an emphasis on the overall well-being of the student, not just the outcome of skills learned.

For nine years, Amelia worked at The Circus Place in Hillsborough, New Jersey. She started as an Assistant Teacher and quickly worked her way up to becoming a Lead Teacher, Camp Director, Youth Program Director, and ultimately as Co-Director of the entire facility. Throughout these many roles, Amelia honed her skills as a teacher, but also gained the necessary skill-set to manage and maintain a robust circus school.

Amelia’s specialities in circus training/educating are aerial arts and ground skills. Her focus in aerial arts are: silks, rope/corde lisse, lyra, innovative apparatus, and duo/group aerials, but she dabbles in many others including: trapeze, straps, and sling. For ground skills, Amelia’s strengths are: hula hooping, diabolo, tumbling, pyramids/group acrobatics, stilt walking, and rolling globe, but has experience with juggling, prop balancing, and various flow arts.

Growing up, Amelia was a competitive cheerleader and has taken only the best attributes of the sport into her philosophy of teaching such as, hard work, commitment and teamwork, and left behind the potentially negative aspects of competitiveness and perfectionism.

As a professional, Amelia started working in childcare at the age of 18, working with toddlers, preschool and pre-k aged children. Although the students she works with now tend to be older school-aged, the skills gained in Early Childhood Learning Centers have proved to be priceless over the years as she transitioned into teaching Circus Arts.

Amelia attended Temple University and holds a B.S.Ed. in Art Education. Although she never pursued a career in the traditional education field (K-12), as she felt called to a different approach to guiding young minds, her years of study in Art Education have provided her with the tools needed to teach students how to express themselves through creative outlets that go beyond visual media and incorporate a physical artform that relies on a whole-child approach to learning.

Amelia has made many accomplishments in her career as a circus arts teacher, but her greatest accomplishments can be seen in the joy on her students' faces when they leave class excited for the next, and in knowing that she is part of a community that has the ability to change lives for the better.
